How to find what’s locking a file in Windows

Neowin outlines two ways to identify the process: Windows’ Resource Monitor and PowerToys’ File Locksmith.

TLDR

Neowin explains that Resource Monitor can search for the process preventing a Windows file from being deleted, renamed or moved. PowerToys offers another option: right-click the file and select “Unlock with File Locksmith” to see which processes are using it. The guide recommends closing the app normally rather than ending unfamiliar processes.
