Michiel Bakker Leaves DeepMind for AGI Readiness Work
Former researcher announces departure to help prepare Europe and the world for AGI.
Michiel Bakker posted on X that he left his role as a research scientist at Google DeepMind last month. He said the move allows him to spend more time helping Europe and the world become AGI-ready. Bakker called his time at the lab life-changing and thanked the colleagues and friends he made there. Replies from other AI researchers expressed support for the new focus. Bakker also clarified that an image in the post omitted the UK from a map of Europe but confirmed the UK remains European in his view.
Good moment to share that I left DeepMind last month to focus more of my time on helping Europe (and the world!) become AGI-ready. Being part of DeepMind completely changed my life. Feel very lucky to have worked with (and become friends with) so many incredible (ex-)GDMers.
