Mojang confirmed at Minecraft Live that The Sift will come to Minecraft's Java and Bedrock editions in 2027. The addition will make it the game's fourth dimension, joining the Overworld, Nether and End, and Mojang describes it as Minecraft's first new dimension in more than 14 years.
The announcement turns a setting created for Minecraft Dungeons II into a broader expansion of the main game. Mojang showed a glimpse of The Sift running in Minecraft and revealed one of its mobs during the September 26 broadcast, but it has not given a release date more specific than 2027 or explained how players will reach it in Java and Bedrock.
Dungeons II opens the first rift
Players will visit The Sift sooner in Minecraft Dungeons II, which launches September 29. Mojang's gameplay overview says rifts scattered through the sequel's newly interconnected world transport players into the dimension.
The official recap describes The Sift as a vibrant environment filled with souls and names two of its areas, the Meadow and the Carapace. Mojang has framed those spaces around unfamiliar enemies and exploration rather than publishing a full list of biomes, mobs or rewards.
That Dungeons II appearance gives players an early look at the visual language and threats behind the expansion, but it is not yet a complete preview of how The Sift will work in the base game. Mojang says more detailed information will follow after Minecraft Live.
