Palantir CEO Alex Karp says frontier AI labs suffer from "religious-like optimism" that fails in real-world deployments

He argues the real AI conflict is theory versus practice.

Have to agree with Alex Karp on this.

Palantir CEO Alex Karp on AI labs

"It's hyper-religion of hyper-optimism...They believe all problems, present, past, and future, including the ones they create but don't acknowledge they create—will be solved by them, including human nature."

Some users praised Karp for calling out AI labs' funding-driven hyper-optimism as structural, while many others attacked him as biased or compared the optimism and labs to cults, megalomania, and worse.

@rohanpaul_ai @CNBC Satanists have always tried to tell the world that they can solve the worlds problems and create utopia. So it is no wonder we hear it all over again by people making AI to replace humanity. Prepaire to fight to win against these new hitlers we will not allow our citizens to DIE!

@rohanpaul_ai @CNBC how are we going to deal with all the problems his one company, alone, is causing? He is, himself, he and his investors and his evil company, the very embodiment of the problems of the technology!

@rohanpaul_ai @CNBC Hyper-optimism treats every problem, including human nature itself, as solvable by more optimisation. This is the Anthropocentric Limit in its purest form.

@rohanpaul_ai @CNBC Ya, Karp isn’t wrong. To me the weird part is labs creating the distortions, then reaching for supreme authority to certify what is real.

@rohanpaul_ai @CNBC If you build the right software, you won’t need big data centers if you make the software intelligent in the program

@GaryMarcus It's worse than that - they assume all of these problems will be solved by "the singularity" somehow.

@rohanpaul_ai @CNBC It is a cult and new religion. I agree and wrote about this days ago:

@rohanpaul_ai @CNBC Karp's the only one naming it: 'hyper-optimism' is structural. When your funding model requires you can't admit the downside, optimism is the only rational choice

@GaryMarcus not all problems are solved by intelligent beings. Most problems on the biosphere are solved by bacteria

@rohanpaul_ai @CNBC Which is literally retarded and a sign of Dunning-Krugerism. They need philosophy.

@GaryMarcus why bother? he's only saying this because it conflicts with the supremacy narrative of palantir.

@Stnd4HumnsFirst @rohanpaul_ai @CNBC It's largely due to AI translations of certain speeches that has resulted in Hitler being viewed in a completely different light.

Perhaps more correct to say prepare to fight to win *with* new Hitlers against this age-old enemy.

@16forbs @rohanpaul_ai @CNBC Na, Hitler killed my relatives, humans, at will and experimented on humans like they were machines. So to me, AI leaders are exactly HITLERS, as they risk all lives on their illegal terrorist experiment. Which will BTW get them killed in the end, as history repeats.
