Advanced Energy has introduced a 160-watt AC-DC power supply designed for equipment that must keep operating through extreme temperatures, shock, vibration, dust and water.
The DF150 is aimed at defense, industrial, telecommunications, transportation and energy systems, eeNews Europe reports. Its practical pitch is standard availability: designers may be able to use a commercial unit with environmental and electromagnetic certifications instead of commissioning a fully custom supply.
Built for physical and electrical stress
The unit provides a nominal 27-volt DC output at 6 amps and delivers up to 160 watts. Advanced Energy specifies operation from minus 46°C to 60°C and an IP67 rating for dust and water protection.
The DF150 meets MIL-STD-810H requirements covering shock, vibration, altitude changes and temperature extremes. It also meets MIL-STD-461G electromagnetic-compatibility requirements across a list of radiated, conducted and susceptibility tests. Those certifications describe the conditions the product is designed to withstand; they do not by themselves mean every system using it is approved for a military program.
The supply reaches up to 91% efficiency at full load and can operate without a minimum load, according to the report. Leakage current is rated at 275 microamps at 230 volts AC.
Designers can choose conduction cooling through a base plate or convection cooling with a mounted heatsink. Advanced Energy also offers multiple input-cable configurations and case colors. That flexibility, combined with a standard product format, is meant to shorten the path to a rugged power subsystem while leaving integrators responsible for validating the complete equipment design.
