Coinbase reports CFTC approval for Coinbase Clearing LLC, completing its U.S. derivatives stack
Coinbase said it received CFTC approval for Coinbase Clearing LLC, its in-house derivatives clearing organization, completing a platform that already included a futures broker and designated contract market.
TLDR
Coinbase said on Sept. 28 that it received CFTC approval for Coinbase Clearing LLC, which it described as its own derivatives clearing organization. The company said that approval rounds out its derivatives setup alongside its futures commission merchant and designated contract market. The move builds on Coinbase Financial Markets’ July 2025 rollout of CFTC-regulated perpetual-style futures for U.S. traders, beginning with nano Bitcoin and nano Ether contracts. It is also separate from Coinbase’s other reported derivatives ambitions: Unchained reported earlier in September that Coinbase had filed with the SEC to seek clearance for perpetual futures on individual U.S. stocks, with CFTC approval framed there as a later step in that separate process.
