A shipment of Nvidia hardware valued at $11.4 million disappeared during transport from Oakland to Texas, Nick Indge reported in Ars Technica. More than two months after pickup, police had announced no arrests or recovery of the cargo, according to his report.
Citing the Mercury News, Indge reported that six pallets left Oakland on Aug. 29, bound for Fort Worth, Texas. A truck bearing the logo of a food transportation company reportedly picked up the hardware as scheduled. The theft went unnoticed until early September, when the buyers realized the shipment had never arrived, according to the Ars account.
Investigators tracing the truck’s route found several stops lasting multiple hours after the pickup. They eventually lost its trail in San Bernardino County, California, Ars reported.
Oakland police confirmed that a grand theft report was filed Sept. 13 and that the investigation remained ongoing, according to Ars.
The specific cargo and the method of theft remained undisclosed. Indge reported that authorities had not identified what Nvidia hardware was stolen or explained exactly how the theft was carried out.
