Pixel 11 buyer reports boot loops and connection failures after $300 Google Fi deal

A steep discount on Google’s new Pixel 11 reportedly turned into a day-one troubleshooting marathon.

Android Authority’s Jerry Hildenbrand writes that he bought a new Pixel 11 for $300 after applying Google Fi loyalty discounts, a price he described as hard to pass up for a current flagship phone. But he says the experience went wrong almost as soon as he powered it on. In his account for Android Authority, Hildenbrand says the phone became stuck in a boot loop during the initial setup process, repeatedly freezing during data transfer, crashing back to the Google logo and restarting.

He says it took nearly an hour of troubleshooting to get past setup and onto the home screen. That effort included clearing cache, force-rebooting and trying different setup paths, according to his write-up.

Problems continued after setup

Getting through setup did not end the trouble, Hildenbrand reports. He says the Pixel 11 then began dropping Wi‑Fi connections, repeatedly switching between bands before disconnecting altogether. When he tried cellular instead, he says the phone showed a full 5G connection but still would not load data, leaving calls, messages and app downloads unreliable.

In his telling, the combined wireless issues made the phone effectively unusable despite appearing to be connected.

Factory resets eventually got it working

Hildenbrand says he ultimately performed a factory reset, and then a second one, before the device became stable enough for basic functions. Even then, he frames the result less as a clean fix than as a reluctant recovery after hours of work on a brand-new phone.

Android Authority presents the episode as the kind of early-adopter instability that can accompany a new device launch, rather than confirmation of a broader hardware defect. The piece also notes that a colleague had previously experienced similar boot-loop issues on a Pixel 11 Pro, suggesting Hildenbrand’s case may not be entirely unique.

Still, the report stops short of showing how widespread the problem may be. As written, it is a firsthand account of one buyer’s rough start with Google’s latest phone — a reminder that a bargain price can feel less compelling when setup, connectivity and stability all go sideways on day one.
