Anthropic said on Aug. 12 that it would offer Claude to U.S. federal agencies for $1, according to Reuters via The Hindu.
Benzinga reported that Anthropic described the offer as making its large language model available to all federal agencies for $1.
Reuters, in The Hindu's publication of its report, said the offer came days after OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini and Anthropic's Claude were added to the government's list of approved AI vendors.
Mashable, citing the Financial Times, reported that Josh Gruenbaum, commissioner of the Federal Acquisition Service, said the goal is to “get widespread adoption [of AI tools] in the federal government.”
Anthropic's announcement came after a similar OpenAI offer. Reuters, via The Hindu, reported that OpenAI had announced the previous week that ChatGPT Enterprise would be available to participating U.S. federal agencies for $1 per agency for the next year. Benzinga also reported that OpenAI announced on Aug. 6 it would offer similar services to the federal government through the U.S. General Services Administration.
