4:20 PM · Jul 14, 2026Update on OpenAIs device: reportedly itll be a screenless, camera-equipped AI companion designed to feel alive. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says OpenAI is building a battery-powered smart speaker that can be carried around the home. It will control appliances, play media, answer messages and understand its surroundings through cameras and sensors. Its personality is supposed to become more humanlike and proactive over time. It will learn from habits, context and personal information, including emails, to anticipate what its owner needs. Mechanical elements will move on their own to make the device feel alive. OpenAI internally calls it "a computer built for AI." The device will use GPT-Live, which can listen and speak simultaneously. Jony Ive’s LoveFrom is designing it after OpenAI’s $6.5 billion acquisition of io Products. OpenAI plans to unveil it this year and ship in 2027, unless Apple’s trade-secret lawsuit delays it. 1) It seems like they're incorporating the experience gained from OpenClaw, creating a device that automates daily routines and can be programmable. 2) GPT Live appears to be a first glimpse of this.
