UMD's Mohit Iyyer finds 11.9% of Washington Post opinion pieces are flagged for undisclosed AI use

The study analyzed major newspapers using the Pangram detector.

Undisclosed AI use is rapidly rising in opinion pieces at America's most circulated newspapers, with the Washington Post "leading" the way. Fewer than 1% of WaPo op-eds published in March 2025 were flagged for AI use by Pangram, compared to 11.9% in March 2026!

Unfortunately for @WSJopinion, @nytopinion, and @PostOpinions, slop-eds continue to rise. In June, roughly 6.5% of opinions are flagged for AI-use.
