Gemini in Google Docs can now draft from Gemini Notebooks

Google Docs can now use an existing Gemini Notebook as source material for AI-assisted writing. Google's Workspace announcement says users can type “@” in the Gemini side panel or bottom bar, select a Notebook and ask Gemini to draft from the research collected there.

The output includes inline citations, giving writers a way to trace generated claims back to the Notebook's sources without repeatedly moving between Docs and the research workspace. Android Authority describes the change as closing a gap between organizing research and turning it into a document.

Availability still depends on account settings

Google says the feature is available now for supported Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Education Plus, Google AI Pro and Ultra, and several education or expanded-access add-ons. Administrators must have Gemini for Workspace in Drive enabled, while individual users need Workspace smart features turned on.

Grounding a draft in a curated Notebook narrows the material Gemini uses, but it does not replace checking the underlying sources. The new citations make that verification easier and keep the source trail visible inside the document.
