Troubleshooting a Windows PC that won’t stay asleep
PCMag says a few settings tweaks may help Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs stay in sleep mode.
TLDR
A Windows PC that wakes unexpectedly is usually responding to software, a scheduled task, a USB device or a network adapter. PCMag recommends diagnosing the cause first with powercfg commands or Power-Troubleshooter events, then changing the narrow setting responsible. Possible fixes include rescheduling Windows Update or Automatic Maintenance, revoking device wake permission and limiting network wakeups to magic packets. Disabling every wake timer is broader and can block useful scheduled work.
