I’ll come out and say I think it’s a good thing if open weight models limit the push to bigger and bigger models while diffusing the actual production of value through society.
Obviously lots of tradeoffs with respect to catastrophic risk, but it would be the most ironic state of affairs I could imagine for the xrisk community.
I don’t know if open weight models are deaccelarationist but if they are, that’s not necessarily a bad thing!
