Pope Leo XIV urges UN member states to take steps toward banning lethal autonomous weapons

The Verge and Gizmodo report that Leo made the appeal in a papal address ahead of a UN meeting in Geneva scheduled for November. He warned that treating AI as if it has conscious experiences risks obscuring human responsibility. He also called for shared standards, independent oversight and accountability for AI development and use.
