David Sacks prompted the debate by framing AI risk politically
Many users rejected David Sacks' claim that AI doomerism will replace climate alarmism on the left as a dismissive tactic shutting down debate, while others praised it for correctly identifying shifting narratives among critics.
You don’t have to be “leftist” (or “doomer”) to care about what AI is doing to our friends, family, neighborhoods, education, and society.
Don’t let @davidsacks spin things otherwise.
Now that the public is waking up to the enormous costs to society of AI, the new dirty trick is to spin the costs of AI as if they were marginalized leftist issues.
They are not. They affect us all.

@DavidSacks It would probably help if the CEO’s of frontier models stopped causing all of it and STFU. Just saying ..
I am with Sacks in his opposition to bailouts and government ownership of AI companies but this note below just strikes me as propaganda, to try to dismiss all valid concerns about AI – and there are many – with an insult (“doomerism”).
Importantly both right and left recognize that AI unregulated AI poses serious risks.
You don’t have to be “leftist” to care what AI is doing to friends, family, neighborhoods, education, and society.
What you call 'AI Doomerism' is just the recognition that building machine intelligences much smarter, faster, and more powerful than humans, and that we can't understand, control, or align, is a reckless idea.
That's it. It's not about Left versus Right. It's about human versus anti-human.
It's about protecting our kids versus letting them become serfs in an AI-dominated economy that neither citizens nor governments nor the AI companies themselves can control.

@DavidSacks Combine both and they go absolutely berserk

@DavidSacks Why was Elon so into climate change in the early days? Why doesn't he explain his change? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyCOvT1Y5YQ&t=949s

@DavidSacks The new climate change, the new COVID…
Some people are intoxicated by the thrill of moral panic and the concomitant moral superiority the faithful believe it confers upon them.

@DavidSacks the irony of calling something pseudoscience in a tweet that has no science in it is doing some work here

@DavidSacks @christopherrufo Don’t forget the idiotic movement against nuclear power in the eighties that stopped nuclear power plants being built that has hamstrung our power generation ability, all because of a mindless movie staring commie Jane Fonda. Same people, same playbook and probably same funding.

@DavidSacks You guys need to explain it to the youth better
Where are the admins conferences? AI completions? Job fairs? Trade schools?
You guys should be streaming X-videos live showing how individuals can use AI. You guys are too quiet about it

@DavidSacks Yeah Obama had one Solyndra , SOCIALIST Trump has 10, picking winners & losers. Welcome to Crooked Rigged Capitalism🍺

@DavidSacks I side with the Goblins, and so should you.

@DavidSacks I mean the CEO of the leading lab is the loudest doomer
Respectfully David I am not seeing the doomerism split neatly across the right left axis

@DavidSacks Hollywood sells Terminator scripts, while engineers are just trying to fix GPU orchestration and context windows.....
The real catastrophe right now is compute costs... not an AI takeove.

@DavidSacks @markjeffrey Not in CANADA!
We don't give up on such a cash goose like climate change so easily!

@DavidSacks We are going to lose tons of jobs and lose a political advantage if we don’t address it and have a plan.

@DavidSacks 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
