TLDR

Mobile Dev Memo shared a post saying Apple blocks alternative IDs in iOS 27. The post argues that Apple likely sees alternative identifiers as contrary to its privacy goals and points to a loophole it says Apple closed in April 2023, when IP-address cloaking let third-party cookies appear to be first-party cookies. Its author argues that workarounds on Apple’s platforms tend to expire.

@eric_seufertApple blocks alternative IDs in iOS 27 "Another reason to be dubious about the long-term durability of alternative identifiers is simply that Apple likely views them as inimical to its privacy goals. I wrote about the interminable game of whack-a-mole that Apple plays with advertising platforms and intermediaries alike in April 2023, when Apple closed a loophole that allowed third-party cookies to be presented as if they were first-party cookies through IP-address cloaking. Ultimately, Apple has the resources and the patience to outlast any practices it simply doesn’t want taking place on its platforms. In that sense, every workaround or loophole always has an expiration date for the Apple ecosystem." https://mobiledevmemo.com/apple-blocks-alternative-ids-in-ios-27/?source=twitter3h
