They’re lying to you lol. They’re disclosing it bc they’re doing pricing based on how hungry/desperate you are to eat, from which location, etc. they’re just dancing around it with the words they’re using. They say discounts because technically they’re charging “less” based on certain factors

@deanwball It's disingenuous of doordash to lead with "distance". The reality is they're showing different prices to different customers based on their estimate of your personal willingness to pay—to squeeze you, in particular, for the highest price you're willing to pay—and that sucks

Uber Eats showing this too and seems to be another clear example of laws being written by people who fundamentally don’t understand the products they’re regulating.
It would legitimately be useful to have a disclosure for true algorithmic pricing (item price differs based on individual ordering, or service fee differs etc.). Instead we end up with this sort of half-assed approach which requires disclosures for obvious things like promotions being personalized. The average consumer will be numb to these disclosures within a couple years, at which point nobody will notice the apps rolling out true algorithmic/individualized pricing.
