OpenAI says a group of agents produced a proof for the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem using a next-generation model it describes as significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra. It describes the problem as asking whether the mathematical description of smooth three-dimensional fluid motion can break down. OpenAI also congratulated Levent Alpöge and Tristan Buckmaster on their mathematical work, saying neither its researchers nor its agents saw their work before it became public. The company says no specific user data was accessed to solve the problem. It cannot rule out that de-identified data from their product usage helped improve its models, though it calls that unlikely. OpenAI says its proofs differ significantly from theirs, with different results in the Euler case—forced versus unforced.
