Exactly and this is where I really feel the difference in practice.
In my ASA7 project, Codex is not just generating code.
It is helping build a research-grade engineering workflow:
blind calibration campaigns, control protocols, SQLite evidence tracking, metric audit layers, false-positive analysis, dashboard views, sensor decomposition, raw signal inspection, and methodological reports.
The important part is not only that it writes files.
It keeps project coherence across iterations.
For ASA7, that matters more than “app generation”.
I don’t need a tool that only builds a UI.
I need an engineering agent that can follow a research trajectory, challenge assumptions, validate results, and update the system without losing the logic of the project.
That is where modern Codex feels very powerful.

Different product surfaces, different workflows.
But reducing today’s Codex to “2021 code snippets” misses what it has become.
Codex was OpenAI's 2021 specialized code model — great at generating code snippets and functions from natural language, and the foundation for early GitHub Copilot.

This is a major shift.
Natural language is becoming an interface for building software.
That means millions of people will be able to create tools, agents, automations and systems without traditional coding barriers. Huge upside. But also a new responsibility layer.
When anyone can build software through language, we also need better ways to observe what those systems are becoming.
Not only: -Did it run? but: -What did it actually build? - What assumptions did it encode? - What trajectory did it start?
The future of software will not only be about creation. It will be about coherence.
