Anyhow broadly many people think that corporations are A/B testing e.g. compensation pathways by which they pay out basis points of basis points of revenue, and I would bet, having a substantial informational advantage on this point, that they are not A/B testing checkout page.
Which, depending on the company, is either tens of percent or literally 100% of revenue. So, when you run into transactional friction going through e.g. a redress, far less likely to be running into maliciously competent beancounting and more likely to be running into finest...
And of course the left hand and right hand don't know what each other are doing. Left hand and right hand are very unlikely to actually work in the same company. (In the particular company under discussion, very likely in different countries, too.)
