I don’t quite know how to feel about Siri re-launching with an app

If it unlocks deeper customization / workflows that make Siri genuinely useful, great!

On the other hand, it feels like the best possible version could be done ambiently (no app required)

@omooretweets Agreed, ambience requires no prompting and at the limit doesn’t require you to open an app

@omooretweets Disagree only because iOS doesn't do a good job of being able to switch or get back to old content other than in an app format

See: the Share Sheet UI and heavy use of drawers etc.

@omooretweets the app is more of a way to see your chat history. the core workflows and interactions are done through the dynamic island bubble.

Which you can also expand into a whole screen.

@omooretweets standalone becomes the command center - ambient isn't always reliable - if you have ever used codex or claude code you ll know - the threads and projects that needs to be maintained

Steve Jobs once famously persuaded Xerox to open their kimono. The result was Mac.

I want/need to do the same

@omooretweets It’s an interesting way to anthropomorphize Siri as a way to motivate a different kind of engagement (passive to active). I hope it isn’t just a mechanism to execute faster internally

but if it finally does stuff people actually want, ill deal with it

@omooretweets because the hard part was never making siri smart, it's knowing what to make it do, why, and for who, without overwhelming the user

@omooretweets It's less about it being an app and more about just figuring out how to make Siri persistent within iOS's design and to enable multitasking without things disappearing with no way to get back to them and have it exist within the switcher like people are used to
