@thdxr People proposing export controls know they incentivize domestic production, the question is whether this outweighs the benefits especially given the preexisting (large!) interest in indigenizing production and all the difficulties in doing this. The analysis looks favorable!
it is crazy how stupid we are infinite examples of export controls being a stimulus for domestic production this isn't some hidden secret counterintuitive concept. they teach this to econ undergrads
@thdxr Also, note that export controlled companies are allowed to rent cloud compute which helps a decent amount (with the goal of later being able to restrict etc when AIs are much more capable).
