The current moment around AI and cyber reminds me a lot of the late 1990s and early 2000s, when people started connecting Windows PCs (and IIS servers) to the Internet and we got wave after wave of malware (Melissa, ILOVEU, Code Red). It was a disaster for Microsoft.
But it was also fixable. In 2002, Bill Gates wrote his famous Trustworthy Computing memo making security the company's top priority. And it worked. Windows (and other) computers got more secure. Malware became a manageable issue over time.
