Anthropic is merging Claude Cowork and chat into a single Claude experience, a change meant to let the assistant decide whether a request needs a quick response or a larger piece of work.
In its September 16 announcement, the company said Cowork's capabilities will become available from any conversation, alongside the user's existing context, skills and connectors. The idea is to remove the choice between separate chat and work surfaces before a task begins.
The update arrives with two new tools: Claude Docs for documents and Claude Slides for presentations. Anthropic says users can create a document or deck inside a conversation, edit it directly, share it by link and ask Claude to make changes. Slides can be presented from Claude or downloaded as a PowerPoint or PDF; Axios reports that Docs can also export to Google Docs or Microsoft Word.
A shared workspace inside the conversation
The company describes Docs and Slides as collaborative tools rather than one-shot generators. A document can be revised with Claude, while people can work in the same document at once, according to Axios. TechCrunch reports that users can share documents or slides by link and edit them on a phone.
Claude Design, Anthropic's existing visual-creation tool, is also moving into conversations. Anthropic says Docs, Slides and Design are in beta on paid plans, and Enterprise administrators decide when to enable them for their organizations.
A staged rollout
The unified Claude interface is rolling out first to Pro and Max subscribers on the web, desktop and mobile apps over the coming weeks, Anthropic says. Team and Free plans are expected to follow later.
The announcement does not make the new experience immediately available to every Claude user. But it moves document, presentation and longer-running work closer to the same place people already use for ordinary chats.
