(A friend of mine developed a classifier model to distinguish between AI and non-AI-generated text. When I use em dashes in the text, it detects that the text is AI-generated with probability 0.95 and when I remove the emdashes probability drops to like .05.)

@satnam6502 maybe the content has the same emotional effect, but using AI loses the costly signal of traditional art.

not to say that a new equilibrium won't be established, but there is likely a fear from some that art as expression authenticated thru effort is now in babbling equilibria.

@satnam6502 There's a fundamental incoherence to everything AI-generated. No deeper meaning, no depth. If there is, it's by accident.

@satnam6502 @dearmadisonblue well, people have different taste in art and that's fine. I think it is natural especially if you consume a ton of something to get bored by it. maybe I consume *so* much AI writing for work that I find it cliched for general writing.

@satnam6502 There’s a huge amount of denial about how good the models are these days.

@satnam6502 It’s not really how it’s made, it’s more that it’s a particular style of bad writing. If humans wrote that way, it would also be annoying.

@satnam6502 I think the critique is that often the art is not good and has funny features (eg hands with 6 fingers).

@satnam6502 'kitsch' was the more popular form than 'Art', similar to how AI slop is; imo the term 'slop' is about how a lot of the output has that quality, rather than being about how it's made
