Micron rules out future 4F² DRAM products after two decades of research
Tom's Hardware reports Micron says the design offers no meaningful density advantage while increasing manufacturing cost and complexity.
TLDR
HotHardware reports Micron will continue with 6F² DRAM rather than bring 4F² memory to market, despite more than two decades of research. Micron CTO Scott DeBoer says the smaller cell layout brings little density gain while adding cost and complexity. HotHardware says Samsung, SK hynix and CXMT are pursuing 4F² designs; Micron sees 3D DRAM as its longer-term path.
