The situation still seems scary. E.g., deferring to AIs is still dangerous even after studying their alignment, wisdom, epistemics, and other properties for years. But there aren't better options if we can't buy way more time. It's much worse if takeoff happens even faster.
Note that even if there isn't a software intelligence explosion, we should still expect a massive acceleration from the full stack singularity / industrial explosion. So things speed up by default either way.
