I have tried to use OpenRouter Fusion API with cheap open models only, and saw reasoning that surpasses any of them individually. Then I looked into API logs and saw that this "Fusion" still calls Opus 4.8 as a judge. I see no way to disable it. Not cool, OpenRouter. Not cool.
Users salute the poster for fixing OpenRouter Fusion API support for DeepSeek and Kimi models despite the documented webpage bug.
Update on the OR Fusion: it seems that this was a pure web failure, you are able to run it with arbitrary model configurations over the API.
ya main eng working on fusion is offline but if devin is to be trusted this is a bug with the fusion page, using the fusion model over the api or as a server tool would work the way you expect. the fusion page missed getting updated to pass the judge model into the right param when fusion was being worked on further (fusion page is the oldest version of this product)

@teortaxesTex @TheZvi the judge being opus 4.8 doesnt really discount the thesis that opus 4.8 + opus 4.8 can be greater than opus 4.8 and even approach Fable
