Google plans ChromeOS support through mid-2034 and Googlebook OS upgrades for eligible Chromebooks

Google also says many of its newest Chromebook devices will be eligible to transition to Googlebook OS, a point also noted by Android Authority. But the company has not yet said which specific Chromebook models qualify or when migration will be available.

Management tools are coming later

One major caveat is that Googlebook’s management story is not fully in place yet. 9to5Google reports that Google is working on a comprehensive management experience for Googlebook, with rollout planned for the second half of 2027.

That creates a distinction between continued support for existing ChromeOS fleets now and future management tooling for Googlebook.

Why this matters now

The timing lines up with Googlebook’s commercial debut. Android Authority reports that the first Googlebooks go on sale next week.

9to5Google also notes that a 2034 ChromeOS phaseout date had surfaced earlier in court-related reporting. The immediate takeaway from Google’s current guidance is narrower: today’s Chromebooks stay on their normal support track, while many of Google’s newest Chromebook devices are slated to become eligible for Googlebook OS, with details on device eligibility and migration paths still to come.
