Google details Chromebook support through 2034 as many newer devices become eligible for Googlebook OS

Google is clarifying what happens to today’s Chromebooks as Googlebook arrives. The company says existing ChromeOS devices will keep receiving updates through their supported lifetime, including regular updates and security patches through mid-2034, and active Enterprise and Education upgrade licenses will retain their current management capabilities. Google also says many of its newest Chromebook devices will be eligible to transition to Googlebook OS, but it has not identified which models qualify or when migration paths will open. 9to5Google reports that Googlebook management features are planned to start rolling out in the second half of 2027, while Android Authority reports the first Googlebooks go on sale next week.
