Axon, the Taser and body-camera maker, announced an additional $1.2 billion investment in Skydio on November 5, 2026. The deal would bring its fully diluted stake in the drone maker to about 37%. Source Source Source
Axon will also become Skydio’s exclusive distributor for public safety customers in the US and Canada. Source
Skydio will remain independent, with Axon taking a minority, non-voting stake, Resilience Media reports. Skydio CEO Adam Bry said the companies seriously considered an acquisition before choosing independence, according to the outlet’s account of his LinkedIn post. Source
“But we came to believe we can both be most useful to the world as independent companies,” Bry wrote, as quoted by Resilience Media. That’s an expensive way to stay just partners. Source
The $1.2 billion isn’t all new money
Axon says the cash-and-stock package includes new capital for Skydio and share purchases from existing shareholders. Source
The agreement values Skydio at $5.2 billion before the investment. Axon says some of the cash will fund product development and expansion, but its announcement doesn’t say how much of the overall package goes to Skydio and how much goes to existing shareholders. Source
What “Drone as First Responder” actually means
