Microsoft reportedly quiet after Indiana church coalition sought 1% of data center costs

Ars Technica reports that We Make Indiana sent Microsoft a proposal in May seeking a binding agreement under which the company would donate a small portion of its data center costs to the county each year. The group had initially planned to ask for as little as 1% or 2% and estimated that even a 1% share could add about $30 million to $40 million annually to community programs. Ars reports Microsoft has gone silent since receiving the proposal, while a spokesperson told Ars it is too early to discuss because the company is still engaging other community leaders. The spokesperson added that Microsoft remains committed to developing its Granger project in partnership with the community and that investment decisions have not yet been made.
