A roughly 192GB archive of Rockstar Games files reportedly surfaced on Sept. 18, revealing more about abandoned Grand Theft Auto V projects while offering only a limited, early glimpse of Grand Theft Auto VI.
The distinction matters. Insider Gaming reports that the files originated with Rockstar's 2022 breach and had circulated among a smaller group before spreading more widely. In other words, this appears to be a broader release of older material, not evidence of a new intrusion or a current GTA 6 build.
Liberty City was apparently built for GTA 5
The most substantial find concerns a canceled Liberty City expansion tied to GTA 5. According to Insider Gaming, a file used to define map zones was imported into CodeWalker, a GTA 5 map editor, producing an outline that appeared larger than the Liberty City seen in Grand Theft Auto IV. A separate terrain test also reportedly surfaced.
That discovery has fueled speculation that Liberty City could return in GTA 6, but the files do not establish that. Dexerto's report ties the Liberty City material to a scrapped GTA 5 or GTA Online project. Treating it as a GTA 6 expansion plan would turn fan theory into fact.
The archive reportedly contains other pieces of GTA 5's cutting-room floor, including material for the abandoned Agent Trevor expansion, unused vehicles, alternate dialogue and unfinished interiors.
The GTA 6 material looks early and incomplete
The GTA 6 portion is much thinner. Reports describe low-quality 3D map renders showing rough versions of locations such as Vice City, an airport, a stadium and waterfront infrastructure. One dataminer said the files are not a complete map and may only be low-detail LOD assets, the simplified geometry games use when objects are viewed from a distance.
Notebookcheck notes that the models may date from before 2020 and possibly run in GTA 5's engine. The outlet also stresses that none of the material has been independently verified and that some of it may overlap files discussed after an earlier source-code leak.
Rockstar had not commented on the archive when the first reports were published. The company's official GTA 6 page still lists a Nov. 19, 2026 release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with Jason and Lucia's story spanning Vice City and the state of Leonida.
