This is a smart move. We need American open source, not Chinese-subsidized open source. Just like with battery tech and rare earth minerals, China will do whatever it takes to crush industries in other countries. They don't care about the market or making a profit. It’s all about global dominance.
@beffjezos No. Open source is free speech. Step off our rights and first and second amendments, @WhiteHouse @gop @DNC @JDVance @SenWarren @DanCrenshawTX @MittRomney Either our constitution matters, or it doesn’t. I have a right to bear AI. •
@AndrewCurran_ Open source is free speech. End of story. They can’t take our first amendment rights. @JDVance @SenWarren @DanCrenshawTX •
@AndrewCurran_ Terrible idea that will.hurt everyone on all sides.
The administration officially denied that any such order is planned.
@jacob_wendler @BrendanBordelon @delizanickel @meredithllee Terrible idea.
@beffjezos Regulation isnt based
There's not much information on this yet, and it's not clear if the executive order would target Chinese open-source models specifically or apply more broadly to open-source AI in general. But something is probably under discussion. The White House denies these reports. https://x.com/AndrewCurran_/status/2075717342324220149/photo/1 https://twitter.com/jacob_wendler/status/2075565694322651376
