We "emotional outsource" every day unbeknownst to us(consciously) If you were around in ancient Greece i could probably go to the library today and find out about you in the Greek philosophy section alongside the "Greats" I always enjoy your insights

Brian, it is my lifelong view that most people ALREADY outsource their emotions to others, a cohort I deem "second-handers"—those who live life second-hand, valuing themselves by what other tell them to value. Numerous social principles derive their power precisely from that the principle of social proof being the most obvious one.

It's not at all clear to me that AI would be going backwards because the values of other humans are often a vibe divorced for ethics or empathy.

This is a really interesting topic. From my own experience with AI, I can already see how easy it is to end up spending a lot of time with it, almost like it’s your new best friend. It seems to know just about everything and is always ready to answer your questions, whether you’re worried about a minor health issue, need a recipe, or want help with your sick plants. If you set it to friendly mode, it feels like it cares about you, listens to your problems, and gives advice. I think AI is amazing, but making it too important in your life can be risky. Brian is right, and we should take this seriously. In reality, this is what you are talking to.
