Also note that when you go into really strange non physiological zones of perturbations, the regulatory mechanisms that get engaged are really beautifully strange. It's very very difficult to extrapolate without models that implicitly learn biophysical principles. 3/

This is not going to happen without thinking very deeply about experimental designs, deeply exploring cis and trans regulatory mechanisms that explain all kinds of perturbation effects & design models that can learn these phenomena & extrapolate. 4/
