BOOX opens pre-orders for the card-sized Picco e-reader at $99.99

BOOX has opened pre-orders for the new Picco e-reader, a notably small model that starts at $99.99 and is expected to begin shipping around late October or in November, depending on order volume, as reported by Android Authority and Engadget.

The Picco is aimed at the growing niche for ultra-compact e-readers. Android Authority reports that it uses a 3.97-inch ePaper touch display, while Engadget describes it as about the size of a standard playing card. Both outlets report a weight of about 58 grams, making it substantially smaller than most mainstream e-readers.

One of the more unusual parts of the device is its software. Android Authority reports that the Picco does not run Android and instead uses a custom interface with a small set of built-in tools, including To-do, countdown, and Pomodoro timer apps. That points to a more limited, focused device than BOOX’s larger e-readers, which are better known for broader Android-based flexibility.

On connectivity and storage, Android Authority reports that the Picco includes both Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth and can receive books through USB-C or microSD card transfer. It also reports that BOOX is including a 16GB microSD card in the box, with support for storage expansion up to 2TB.

Engadget adds that the Picco has page-turn buttons alongside touchscreen controls and supports four-way screen orientation, reinforcing that the tiny form factor is still meant to function like a full e-reader rather than a novelty device.
