Ending this 🧵 with some places I agree with Demis: humanity needs more time to get AGI right, & we aren’t currently giving ourselves that; the current race dynamics are very bad; we may need to (I think must) slow down; our fate is not yet sealed. Glad he’s talking publicly! 9/9
8:32 AM · Jul 14, 2026I'm glad he acknowledges that "experts disagree." I'm annoyed that he glosses past how the disagreement is about whether there's a ~5% or ≥50% chance of total catastrophe. We've gotta do better.
6:35 PM · Jul 14, 2026I'm glad Demis acknowledges that this is a "pivotal moment in human history" during an "extremely intense" race. I'm disappointed that his proposed solution is a "standards body" to evaluate whether models are dangerous, with no plan for what to do once they are.
