How many people in the EU apparatus can hear "you should deploy Zhipu's latest GLM asap if you really care about AI sovereignty" and not guffaw? how many even know that "ZhipuAI" exists?
Positive users praised US officials' edge in tracking Chinese models like Zhipu GLM over EU ignorance as a strong state-capacity flex, while some hoped the US would stay similarly unaware.

one good measure of state capacity is whether the relevant state's AI officials read Zephyr, Jukan, Lisan and me The US is very far ahead indeed, its ex-AI czar was my mutual The PRC has some lower-rank cadres who read me, afaik Europe is… European AI czars, raise your hands!

At least Zephyr and Lisan are mandatory for understanding the supply chain and AI performance landscape I can be substituted with a number of higher-SNR accounts, I am just having fun and my shitposting might be too much of a time waste (I'm a better writer than most though) …the serious point is that you need to be plugged into this part of twitter to be whatsoever close to real-time awareness of The Trendline. I am afraid nobody relevant in Russia, the EU, Japan, and most other states understands this

A few, not enough.
The EU apparatus however is not really that significant, only Germans believe in "EU law", what matters is the national governments, and there pragmatism often wins despite shared ideological identities with the EU.
I wouldn't focus on political lobbying, having a few big corporates deploying GLM would cement a no-rollback guarantee however much the commission whines about it.

@teortaxesTex Haha exactly

@teortaxesTex As an aside, yes it means that Claude is *already* covered by that no-rollback guarantee, which is why my hopes are on the US being stupid rather than the euros being smart.

@teortaxesTex That part about needing to be plugged into this corner of twitter for real-time trendline awareness really hit. There's no substitute for that kind of live signal.

@teortaxesTex This is such a perfect, low-key flex on state capacity. The US mutuals metric is genuinely hard to beat.

@teortaxesTex Have any of you guys ever gotten offers from institutional officials? I imagine this would be one of the highest alpha thing to do for them
