Starcloud Raises $250M at $2.3B Valuation for Orbital Compute
CEO Philip Johnston announced the round to expand space-based AI data centers amid terrestrial energy limits.
Philip Johnston, Starcloud's CEO and co-founder, posted that the company raised the round led by Manhattan West. New backers include NVIDIA, Cisco Invests, Cedar Capital, Goanna Capital, and Standard Cap. The firm builds orbital data centers to supply AI compute. Alexis Ohanian noted that NVIDIA's participation marks a shift from earlier skepticism about compute in orbit. Other observers including Paige Bailey and Robert Scoble posted reactions to the announcement.
