China Explores Tiered Open Source Rules For AI Technologies

Highest rankedThis doesn't mean you get to cope about infinite open sourced Mythoses. Bing is pretty specific, I think. National security is paramount, and open source is a catch-up tool, not charity for barbarians. https://x.com/teortaxesTex/status/2074498558506467618/photo/1

@teortaxesTex If models eventually converge and become a commodity for ~90% of applications, then it makes a lot of sense. By making them open, you're just accelerating the commoditization, and the real business will be whoever can serve the demand at the lowest price.
Am I tripping or is this substantially more intelligent and nuanced than anything out of the US? Americans, far as I can tell, are mostly making grug noises about Big Man, Freedom and Wunderwaffes. https://x.com/teortaxesTex/status/2074507462426648980/photo/1
I really recommend reading this. The Chinese are thinking about subtle problems with open source. Ironically this "open now, bankrupt profit-chasing smaller entities, close later" is what's attributed to Chinese ecosystem as a whole, and what Meta tried to do. https://x.com/teortaxesTex/status/2074506819284697110/photo/1 https://twitter.com/teortaxesTex/status/2074495629460455859

Update on the Chinese AI news. The Intellectual Property Court actually had a fairly interesting discussion. The tiered release is an idea of one Chen Bing. They're more preoccupied with "openwashing" as anti-competitive move, data leaks, and gaining "discourse power". https://x.com/teortaxesTex/status/2074495629460455859/photo/1 https://twitter.com/bdsqlsz/status/2074475769380720714
