Anthropic reportedly redacted a majority of the evidence METR found most informative for its conclusions

In an assessment released Nov. 5, 2026, METR said Anthropic redacted a majority of the evidence it found most informative for its conclusions about risk from the public version. Business Insider quoted METR: “While we were able to freely share our highest-level conclusions about risk, Anthropic redacted a majority of the evidence we found most informative for these conclusions.” Business Insider described the redactions as being at Anthropic’s insistence.

Business Insider reported that METR’s researchers spent nearly three months inside Anthropic. They interviewed employees, monitored internal Slack channels and examined unreleased AI models using company hardware.

In a Nov. 5 post, CaseyNewton shared a longer passage stating that METR submitted a roughly 100-page full report to Anthropic. “As a consequence, the public must rely on our judgment more than we consider ideal,” the passage says. METR’s claim concerns the evidence it found most informative for its conclusions, not a majority of all evidence it gathered.
