James Maddison scores on first start since May 2025 as Tottenham beat Coventry City 3-1

Tottenham beat Coventry City 3-1 at home for their first Premier League win of the season, moving off the bottom of the table. James Maddison opened the scoring after 14 minutes on his first competitive start since May 2025.

Mohammed Kudus held off Jay Dasilva to set up Maddison at the edge of the box, where he curled a right-footed shot into the far corner, according to the Standard's match account. The Athletic FC described it as a first-time effort against Maddison's former club and said the goal gave Spurs their first Premier League lead of the season. The outlet said Maddison had been battling injuries and working to regain fitness.

Coventry equalized through Jack Rudoni four minutes after the break. Omar Marmoush restored Tottenham's lead in the 58th minute, and Ben Davies sealed the win with a shot that slipped under goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, according to the Standard. The Standard also reported that Dejan Kulusevski made his first Spurs appearance in 526 days.
