75 years since Chico Carrasquel and Minnie Miñoso became MLB’s first Latino All-Stars

MLB recalls how Chicago White Sox teammates Chico Carrasquel of Venezuela and Minnie Miñoso of Cuba became its first Latino All-Stars in 1951. Carrasquel started at shortstop for the American League and went 1-for-2, singling off future Hall of Famer Robin Roberts. For Miñoso, inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2022, it was the first of nine AL All-Star selections. MLB says more than 300 Latin American players representing nine places of birth have been named to the All-Star Game since that 1951 milestone.
