The Huskers opened 5-0 before losing four straight, averaging 13.5 points per game during that stretch. Coach Matt Rhule confirmed Holgorsen's firing, saying the offensive plan and execution were “simply not working.” Holgorsen, a former West Virginia and Houston head coach, had been Nebraska's offensive coordinator since November 2024.
