Dylan Larkin heard loud boos during introductions at Detroit's Little Caesars Arena on Friday, Oct. 2. The former Red Wings captain appeared with the players who were not dressing for the home opener, Sportsnet reported. He gave a small wave before leaving the bench for the locker room.

Larkin had requested a trade in the offseason and lost the captaincy. He had held the role since 2021 and has spent his entire NHL career with Detroit, according to Field Level Media.

An upper-body injury also kept him out of the lineup. On Thursday, coach Todd McLellan ruled Larkin out of the season's first two games, against the New York Rangers on Friday and the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday, Field Level Media reported. McLellan described him as day-to-day and hoped he could return for the third game. That was an expectation, rather than a confirmed return date.
