Asa Montgomery has committed to Duke's 2027 basketball recruiting class, ESPN's SCNext reported on Oct. 28. SCNext said Montgomery told ESPN's Paul Biancardi of his decision and ranked him No. 7 in its SC Next 100 for the Class of 2027.
Montgomery described his decision in comments to Biancardi quoted by Jeff Borzello: “The Duke visit had a different feeling,” he said. “Coach Scheyer kept it real with me. Duke wins, and I can trust him.”
Joseph Spears of USA TODAY High School Sports identifies Montgomery as a Hillgrove forward from Powder Springs, Georgia, and reports that he made his official Duke visit Oct. 2. Spears says Montgomery chose Duke over Auburn, Georgia Tech, LSU, North Carolina and UConn. USA TODAY Sports' composite rankings for the 2027 class put him at No. 8 overall, No. 3 among power forwards and No. 2 in Georgia, rather than the No. 7 spot on SCNext's list.
Ball Durham counts Montgomery as Duke's third commitment and second composite five-star in the 2027 class. Spears reports that Kager Knueppel committed June 29 and that Australian point guard Luke Paul has also committed. says Montgomery's commitment gives Duke a top-10 recruit for its seventh straight recruiting class.
