MLB proposes phasing in a salary cap and floor in 2028
MLB projects a $258.2 million cap and $180.2 million floor, with a net $108 million payroll increase.
TLDR
With free agency underway, MLB says clubs need a full offseason to adjust to its proposed cap and floor. The league projects 12 clubs would add a combined $636 million in payroll to reach the floor, while eight would cut $528 million to reach the cap. Other elements of MLB's labor offer would still go into place in 2027.
