@MLB“THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT! THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT!” 75 years ago today, Bobby Thomson hit what might be the most famous home run in baseball history. In August 1951, the New York Giants trailed the Brooklyn Dodgers by 13 games in the National League standings. Over the final seven weeks of the season, the Giants roared back by going 37-7 to tie the Dodgers for first place and force a three-game playoff for a trip to the World Series. The Giants won the first game 3-1, with Thomson hitting a two-run home run off Dodgers starter Ralph Branca. The Dodgers blew out the Giants 10-0 in the second game. The deciding third game was played on Oct. 3, 1951. It featured seven Hall of Famers, including Jackie Robinson and Wilie Mays. Bottom of the ninth, two men on and one out, Branca was brought in from the bullpen to again face Thomson. Thomson hit a walk-off three-run homer that came to be known as “The Shot Heard ‘Round The World.” Sound up for Russ Hodges and the most famous call in baseball broadcasting history.9h
