The Oilers star reached the mark in 15 games, one faster than Wayne Gretzky did in 1984-85.
Gretzky had held the record since 1984-85, when he reached 30 assists in 16 games. A hockey account says McDavid had nine goals and 39 points through his first 15 games, with an assist in each game.

@NHLANOTHER RECORD FOR 97 🍎 No player in NHL history has reached 30 assists in a season faster than Connor McDavid!
@hockeygamedayTV🚨 CONNOR MCDAVID IS ON PACE FOR 218 POINTS! The numbers behind @cmcdavid97’s historic start are ridiculous. Through 15 games for the @EdmontonOilers: 🏒 9 Goals 🎯 30 Assists 🔥 39 Points ⚡ 132 Speed Bursts Above 20 MPH 🚀 24.01 MPH Top Skating Speed 📈 23 Primary Assists 🏒 8 Goals Off the Rush McDavid became the fastest player in NHL history to reach 30 assists, breaking Wayne Gretzky’s record by one game. He has also recorded an assist in all 15 games to open the season, extending his NHL record. And here’s the number that might be the craziest: 39 of Edmonton’s 63 goals have involved McDavid. That’s 61.9%! Gretzky’s single-season record of 215 points has stood since 1985–86. McDavid’s current pace? 218. We’re only 15 games into the season, but the possibility of another 200-point NHL campaign is suddenly a legitimate conversation. 👀 Can McDavid sustain this, or is Gretzky’s record safe? 📊 NHL EDGE | November 2, 2026 #LetsGoOilers #ConnorMcDavid #NHL #hgdtv@NHLANOTHER RECORD FOR 97 🍎 No player in NHL history has reached 30 assists in a season faster than Connor McDavid!@hockeygamedayTV🚨 CONNOR MCDAVID IS ON PACE FOR 218 POINTS!
